The transit index is guide not a diagnostic. It is useful for monitoring progress and response to intervention.
Normal transit patterns i.e. complete clearance of markers have a high value >0.95. Therefore:
- a response is a change in value (delta).
- an improvement is an increase in transit index towards 1.
We are currently working on validating this calculator for other protocols e.g.
- 20 markers ingested on 1st, 2nd and 3rd day, check X-Ray on 5th Day
- 50 markers ingested, check X-Ray on 5th Day
